Why would it do so only when being used as a mobile hotspot? This doesn’t make sense. On a Surface Pro 3, the Marvell wireless adapter doesn’t even have the power saving option in Device Manager. Not sure which build of Windows 10 eliminated that, or it was never there in the first place, but that doesn’t matter. This isn’t a solution that will work in Windows Unfortunately I have done this and it did not help, I also made sure the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” was unchecked on the adapter I am sharing in addition to the connector that Hotspot creates.

I don’t know if you fixed your problem or not. But here is how I solved it. Hope this works for you too. I went round and round with Microsoft on this too. However, there is a way around it, but it takes several steps.
Otherwise you will have trouble sharing the network. In the Icon view, go directly to Network and Sharing. In this window you should see three connections. Select the Sharing tab. Click OK. Honestly, i cant believe that no one suspected or suggested this. Microsoft is not proving to be helpfull with wifi issues lately as i have been having a looot and i fixed most by my self. If you have any kind of virtual adapters eg having virtualbox or vmware installed then disable the virtual adapter and the hotspot will stay on.

Even with the adapter power savings disabled, laptop set to never sleep and active use of the hotspot – it will always turn itself off after a few hours or a few days. So I wrote a PHP script that runs at the command line checking Ipconfig every minute looking for a “Media disconnect” on the wireless Lan adapter used by the Mobile hotspot. Then using tinytask.
While its a primitive method, I can find no command to turn on mobile hotspot from the command line or any other way. Netsh doesn’t work since my adapter is “hosted network supported : no”.
